Second Announcement and Call for Papers

 

 

The 7th International Workshop “Computer Algebra in Scientific Computing’2004” will be held at the Euler International Mathematical Institute, Saint Petersburg, Russia in July 12-19, 2004. The methods of Scientific Computing play an important role in research and engineering applications in the natural and the engineering sciences. The significance and impact of computer algebra methods and computer algebra systems for scientific computing has increased considerably in recent times. Nowadays, such general-purpose computer algebra systems as Mathematica, Maple, MuPAD and others enable their users to solve the following three important tasks within a uniform framework:

  • symbolic manipulation
  • numerical computation
  • visualization

The ongoing development of such systems, including their integration and adaptation to modern software environments, puts them to the forefront in scientific computing and enables the practical solution of many complex applied problems in the domains of natural sciences and engineering.

The topics addressed in the workshop cover all the basic areas of scientific computing provided by application of computer algebra methods and software:

  • exact and approximate computations
  • numerical simulation using computer algebra systems
  • parallel symbolic-numeric computation
  • problem-solving environment
  • Internet accessible symbolic and numeric computation
  • symbolic-numeric methods for differential and differential-algebraic equations
  • algebraic methods in geometric modeling
  • algebraic methods for nonlinear polynomial equations and inequalities
  • symbolic and numerical computation in systems engineering and modeling
  • algorithmic and complexity considerations in computer algebra
  • computer algebra in industry
  • solving problems in natural sciences
  • aspects of computer algebra programming languages
  • automatic reasoning in algebra and geometry

The workshop is intended to provide a forum for researchers and engineers in the fields of mathematics, computer science, numerical analysis, industry, etc. An important goal of the workshop is to bring together all these specialists for the purpose of fostering progress on current questions and problems in advanced scientific computing.

VISA Information

At the moment, citizens of many countries need a visa to enter Russia.

There are many tourist agencies in every country readily selling tourist visas to Russia. There is also a possibility to obtain your visa invitation via Euler Institute.

Please note that it may take some time to obtain a visa. Thus, we strongly recommend that you apply at least 1.5 – 2 months in advance.

If you would like to have your visa invitation processed by the Euler Institute (a document to be presented at a Russia Consulate), please read the instructions below.

There are two kinds of visas you may wish to apply for. A tourist visa is quicker to make. However, we heard that some travel grants do not reimburse for tourist visas. In this case you will definitely need a business visa.

1. Fill in the registration form at

    if you have not done so.

2. Upon receiving your registration form as well as the registration forms

    of your accompanying persons the Euler Institute applies to the

    Ministry of Internal Affairs for your Invitation to visit Russia.

3. A month later (in case of a business visa) or a week later (in case of a

    tourist visa) an invitation is issued.

4. We send you the invitation by fax (however we know that several

    Russian Consulates accept only th original papers versions of the

    invitation. In this case we post it to you).

5. You go to the Russian Consulate which you mentioned in your

    visa form and apply for a Russian visa.
